ADVA Optical Networking Brings Carrier Class Network Management to Carrier Ethernet Services Market
Norcross, Georgia, USA and Martinsried/Munich, Germany (Vocus) April 29, 2008 -- ADVA Optical Networking (http://www.advaoptical.com/?utm_source=fsp-nm-pr&utm_medium=cpc) today announced the introduction of a carrier Ethernet feature set for its FSP Network Manager (http://www.advaoptical.com/default.aspx?id=221&utm_source=fsp-nm-pr&utm_medium=cpc) (FSP NM). This software platform specifically designed for the Ethernet demarcation (http://www.advaoptical.com/default.aspx?id=860&utm_source=fsp-nm-pr&utm_medium=cpc) space enables service providers to remotely monitor and manage the performance of thousands of network elements, all from a central location. It introduces powerful technology that enables the automation of network operations, and provides management for the IEEE- (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) defined Provider Bridge (PB ? 802.1ad) services, with support for Connectivity Fault Management (CFM ? 802.1ag). The ADVA FSP NM is shipping now.
Beyond most network management products, the ADVA FSP NM provides for carrier-class Ethernet performance management. Leveraging ADVA Optical Networking?s leading position in the Ethernet demarcation arena, the platform offers traditional carrier-class management functionality combined with Service Level Agreement (SLA) monitoring and test capabilities. These features, along with the ADVA Etherjack® technology, enable the reporting of SLAs based on the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) Y.1731 standard for carrier Ethernet services, which telecommunications carriers use to verify their customers receive only the most reliable network services.
The ADVA FSP NM enables collection and synthesization of statistics from the several thousand Ethernet termination points that comprise today?s complex deployments, especially those found in wireless backhaul applications. Providing for remote management of in-service software upgrades and remote database back up of a large number of devices, service providers save resources because large numbers of network elements can be upgraded as a group rather than one by one.
?Service providers confirm that state-of-the-art network management is a critical item in deploying large-scale Ethernet networks today,? stated Erin Dunne, Vertical Systems Group?s director of research services. ?With potentially thousands of network nodes in a wireless backhaul application, it?s impossible to make manual updates. Instead, the economics increasingly point to an intelligent network manager that remotely manages software upgrades, gathers statistics and reports service-level performance from a central location.?
With Ethernet networks more heavily deployed than ever before, communications carriers are focused on delivering highest quality of service while driving service outages to a minimum. With the implementation of the FSP NM across the network, service providers can proactively monitor and repair a network outage before the customer realizes the service went out.
?Providing housekeeping functions, alarms and SLA management, the FSP NM delivers a product that service providers can use today to deliver more reliable services,? explained Christoph Glingener, chief technology officer at ADVA Optical Networking. ?Offering five-nines availability, sub-minute failover and scalability up to thousands of individual network elements, this product stands ahead of the pack in its ability to deliver features that can truly set one service provider?s carrier Ethernet services apart from the next. Additionally, the FSP NM can manage both ADVA Optical Networking?s Ethernet and optical product portfolios, providing customers a unified approach to managing complex next-generation networks end to end.?
